Frequently asked questions

What is GameHunt?

GameHunt is a game discovery site. It helps you find your next game, shows how to get it from an official source, and lists where every detail on the page came from.

Is GameHunt free to use?

Yes. Everything on GameHunt is free, and you don't need an account.

Where does GameHunt get its game information?

From the game's official site, its source code repository, its store pages, and Wikipedia. Each game page lists the sources it was checked against and the date it was checked. If a detail can't be confirmed, it's left out rather than guessed.

How we source data

Does GameHunt host game downloads?

No. GameHunt doesn't host game files. It links only to a game's developer, publisher, official store page, or an authorized distributor.

Is it legal to download abandonware?

Not automatically. "Abandonware" isn't a licence: an old game is still under copyright even if nobody sells it. GameHunt's retro section lists only older games that their creators released for free or still sell, and each game page names the source that shows it.

Retro classics you can still get legally

What's the difference between open source, free forever, and free to play?

Open source means the game's code is published under an open-source licence, and you can download it free. Free forever means it's free to download and keep, but the code isn't open. Free to play means it's free to start, usually with optional paid items. GameHunt labels each one separately.

What counts as a retro game on GameHunt?

A game first released in 1999 or earlier that you can still get legally today.

How are hidden gems chosen?

Every pick must be legitimately available, fully checked, a finished game or a long-running project, and get far less attention than the best-known games in its genre. Nobody can pay to be on the list.

How does GameHunt Roulette pick a game?

It picks at random from every checked game that matches your filters, and never shows the same game twice in a row when there's a choice. If nothing matches, it says so instead of guessing.
