How to ask for a game recommendation

The best recommendation requests give people something to work with. Include these five things:

1. Two or three games you loved, and why. “I loved Warcraft III’s tower defense maps because of the maze building” tells people far more than “I like strategy games.”
2. What you play on. PC, Mac, Linux, Steam Deck, console, or phone. Mention your hardware if it’s older.
3. Your budget. Free only, under $10, or anything goes.
4. How you like to play. Solo or with friends, short sessions or long evenings.
5. What you don’t want. Genres, themes, or mechanics you’ve had enough of.
